Goodbye Facebook
I have taken the first step in taking my life back. I have deactivated my Facebook profile and do not plan on reactivating it. It
stopped being fun years ago, actually. While it’s been nice reconnecting with a few people from my past, it was typically alot of rambling bullshit that I really didn’t care about. I’m still doing “the twitter” but pretty much done with FB. While I agree it can be used as a great marketing tool, database for marketers, and does benefit me professionally (so I’ll still manage that aspect because it pays), it does very little for me personally. My friends have my email and phone number…and it’s not like I’m unreachable.
I”m going to re-dedicate myself to writing and music and try and regain the creativity using the time I was pissing away on Facebook. I’m confident I’ll gain more satisfaction from that. Is that selfish? Maybe, but it’s not as narcissistic as most people are on FB.
So long FB!
Wasted time is exactly that…and I’d rather waste mine doing something I enjoy.
Developing Characters From Old Yearbooks
I have been working on developing characters for a script I’m writing. All of the characters that I develop are influenced by people I know or have known of over the years. A great way I have found to develop additional characters is flipping through an old yearbook. I have kept all of my yearbooks k-12 and also have 1 from my first year of college. These are gold mines for character development. Thumbing through old yearbooks will trigger other long lost memories filed away. Look at the names and faces as well as events that were covered. You’re developing the character, so why not make them exactly how you want them. You may also see a picture that triggers some funny stories that you can embellish and work in as well. Local libraries are also a good resource for old yearbooks. They capture styles, pop culture, and can provide entertainment in your research.
Eating in Restaurants That Call Your Name
When I am in public, I don’t really like to draw attention to myself. I enjoy playing the role of spectator and enjoy watching the
behavior of others and maybe take something I see and develop it into a character in my writings. However, I often find myself eating in cafes and restaurants that call your name when your order is ready. Which Wich is probably one of my favorites for this…at which wich, your write your name on the bag they are using to build your ‘wich and then call it out when it’s ready.
Names that make employees uncomfortable are Sweet Pea, Sugar Britches, and Baby Doll. My wife and I usually pick a theme from a show. Names that usually get a chuckle or at least amuse us are: Greg and Marsha, Rudy and Theo, Jerry and Elaine. Sometimes we use lesser known characters like Cappie and Casey or Veronica and Logan. Get creative and have fun next time your out in a place like this…
Remember…it’s the little things that make us laugh.
PS. You’re welcome for the backlink Which Wich.
Motivation Part 1
It has been two months since I started my new job. I absolutely love it! i have not been able to say that in nearly 7 years. My quality of life has risen to a new high and everything continues to get better. I’m working for a great company and feel like I’m more than just an employee. I am making decisions, I listen, I am heard, and best of all I have a mutual respect with those I work with. I’m not going to go list all the things that I hated about my previous job and the bullshit that I dealt with on a regular basis. I will, on the other hand, encourage anyone who is in a bad situation to stop letting others dictate your success! You can always find a job you don’t like. Get out there and make things happen. Focus on your strengths and let those strengths guide you.
