Developing Characters From Old Yearbooks
I have been working on developing characters for a script I’m writing. All of the characters that I develop are influenced by people I know or have known of over the years. A great way I have found to develop additional characters is flipping through an old yearbook. I have kept all of my yearbooks k-12 and also have 1 from my first year of college. These are gold mines for character development. Thumbing through old yearbooks will trigger other long lost memories filed away. Look at the names and faces as well as events that were covered. You’re developing the character, so why not make them exactly how you want them. You may also see a picture that triggers some funny stories that you can embellish and work in as well. Local libraries are also a good resource for old yearbooks. They capture styles, pop culture, and can provide entertainment in your research.
