John B. Flushing gets personal for a moment.
Well, due to some recent restructuring to the organization I had been with for quite some time, I found myself unemployed for the first time in my life this week, since I entered the work force 16 years ago. Some of you may think, oh great, another post about some poor chap losing his job and going online to whine about it. Well it’s actually the opposite! I’ve accepted it and actually very excited about pursuing something different. I accepted my last job with the intention of only being there temporarily while I got back on my feet after up and moving to a new city. The job continued, I had the opportunity to play in a punk rock band for a while, then go back and finish my degree and finally walk across that stage and hold up the paper that showed I had finally earned my BS. I fished off the company pier and reeled in the awesome person I married, and now I’m ready for a greater challenge. I’ve met a handful of great people, experienced alot, and have grown both personally and professionally over the years. I won’t lie and say that getting laid off doesn’t sting a little, but it’s not the end of the world. You just have to keep your head up, think positive, and give your ego a little pep talk enough to raise your confidence level and get back out there. Surround yourself with good people, do good things, and good things will happen. I’m not the first one to be laid off and won’t be the last one, just keep moving forward, do your best work, and live well. I’ve learned what I will do better and what I’ll do differently moving forward.
I’ve been doing some side work for an Internet Media company handling a good chunk of their SEO accounts and now I’ll be focusing all my efforts on growing that aspect with the owner of the company. I have also spent quality leisure time learning how to build out custom wordpress themes and improving my SEO game.
Last night I probably got the best night’s sleep I’ve had in 8 months and tonight I can’t seem to go to bed. Some things never change.
