Something old something new

I’m getting restless, I’m ready for something new and challenging. This weekend I’m going to sit down and brainstorm some ideas about my next move. I would like to start another business, but need to narrow down the focus of what I want to accomplish this time around. I don’t feel I’m being challenged in the right areas of my professional life right now and need a new atmosphere.

My current environment is less than pleasant and at times seems cancerous. New ideas are constantly being shot down, old ideas are accepted as “well, that’s what we’ve always done” and the comfort level of treating others with little to no respect has grown immensely. I walked past a co-worker today and said hello and didn’t get a single response or acknowledgment, so I followed up with..”have a piece of candy, there’s plenty of chocolate left,” but still nothing. Who is so f*cking important that they can’t be the least bit cordial?

I’m happy it’s the weekend so that I can regroup and try and refocus my own thoughts and reset them to positive ones. I’ve had more success in my life financially, emotionally and professionally and know what it’s like to love waking up in the morning to face a new challenge on a daily basis that yields a pleasant sense of accomplishment. I’m ready for that again.

Not that anyone cares, but I had dinner at a place that has been near my home for years, but never really noticed or thought about. It is a great little Mediterranean diner. The gyro I had was fanflippintastic! Bad weather in the forecast for tomorrow…but it will still be a great weekend!

Getting Stupid with Cupid

I haven’t had a cold that kicked my ass as hard as this one has in a long while. This one has been kicking for about a week now and I’m finally feeling better, but not 100% yet…then again..I’m probably never 100% any time.

I went out to dinner last night for an early birthday dinner and to see a band we’re thinking of booking for our wedding reception in June. After dinner we had a few errands to run and thought we’d swing by target. All of these people were last minute shopping for a Valentine’s Day card and since we were both there and didn’t see the need to spend money on a card…we each picked a card and then handed it to one another and read them. We both said happy valentine’s day, kissed, laughed and then continued on with our evening.

I’ve been following the Olympics, which is always a nice break from typical programming. I was randomly glued to the biathlon earlier today where the participants would ski for a bit and then stop and shoot, then ski on for a bit and then stop and shoot. I would be a little nervous competing against someone with a loaded rifle on their back, but then again I shop at a ghetto Wal-Mart twice a month whether I need to or not.

What’s up with the crazy professor in Alabama who shot her colleagues over not getting tenured? It’s not like all the clues weren’t there before this all happened…apparently having some involvement in a package bomb in the early 90′s and the “accidental” death of her brother… I don’t have all the facts, but this lady has some problems (beyond issues).

Anyway, I’m working on a few more blogs that will be posted in a couple days, but wanted to post some filler today.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

The roof sounds like it’s about to blow off of my place…I’m going to go see what that’s all about.

Super Bowl Sunday

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

I woke up feeling terrible this morning and I’m going to bed feeling worse, but I’m going to try and take it easier than normal and hopefully won’t be too sick for long.

As much as I love going to Wal-Mart during this time of year to witness the mayhem of people filing taxes and then going nuts with their tax return in the form of an instant gift-card, I didn’t have the patience nor time to deal with the people or the lines (since the closest Wal-Mart is nasty and often has a third of the actual lanes open) so I went to
Sam’s Club where I was in and out in 10 minutes and now have toilet paper for months now.

I was pleased with the Saints victory tonight. I joined the game early in the 2nd Q and watched to the end.

I didn’t think The Who was all that bad. I was expecting a total shitfest of a half-time show with many artists and the children holding shit up etc. My attitude may change if I have children someday, but I’m really glad they didn’t bring in some childrens chorus. I know…it’s a big deal to the kids and a great moment in their life…but the fact is…I hate listening to children sing.

I need a good night’s sleep and to remember to grab a dollar so I can buy a homeless paper tomorrow from the guy I try and buy from when he has a new issue. Since I have more spare time now, I think I’m going to do a little more volunteering with a few needs organizations. I always volunteer for the beer festivals, but feel I need to do a little more interacting with the people that the organization is helping.

Memories and John Hughes

My weekend is coming to a quick end and I’m not particularly thrilled about that. I’m trying to enjoy what’s left of the summer, but have so much going on that it’s only going to get more chaotic as Fall approaches. We did make it out to the lake house over the weekend and had a great time swimming and tubing behind the boat. I’m very sore today and have had to ice my shoulder that I’m trying to rehabilitate so that I can drum again for a longer period of time without my bursitis kicking in.

I managed to catch up with a few old friends on facebook over the weekend which was amusing. Catching up with two in particular really triggered some funny memories that I have no idea how I forgot in the first place. I was able to scribble a few thoughts into my comedy journal. I have an incredible memory but it’s funny what and how others remember from their perspective of the same experience. This is encouraging me to write more, but also hook back up with my writing partner so that we can put funnier stories together and get some of the short films captured and posted online. I really think people will enjoy them.

John Hughes 01I was sorry to hear about Writer/Director John Hughes this week. I’ve always been a huge fan of his work. I’m not sure what else to say about him at the moment other than he set the bar high for anyone trying to write the next great coming of age story. I can remember when I was growing up, I watched John Hughes movies over and over and was constantly quoting them with friends. To this day I can still quote a John Hughes movie in just about any situation.

RIP John Hughes

Mayo Day

OK, so I’ve been out of pocket for the last couple days and wanted to catch up for a moment. Over the weekend I worked for a friend out at a Renaissance Festival. That is a sub-culture everyone should submit themselves too at least once. I saw way too many old pushed up boobies in corsets and people who may have missed out on a few hugs as children.

Most were happy, some were just flat out weird, and some I just don’t have any words for. Don’t get me wrong, I do think it’s great that there are events like this out there. It reminds me every year that I help out at the festival that there is something for everyone in our world. This was the 3rd year I have done this and I’m recognizing several people from previous years.

Sunday was nice, I actually got to sleep in a little bit and then got up in time to shower, stop by and pick up my road case for my drum hardware and headed downtown to finally get set up to help Gym get ready for his record he’s been working on for a while. I’m pretty excited about it and it should be good. This also opens up many more opportunities to hang out and write comedy stuff for lowbrow and (highbrow) songs for his record. Since I’m working with numbers and spreadsheets/data all day…this is going to be a great creative outlet.

I have put in a little more work on the website and I’m still acquiring content so that hopefully I’ll have it launched in the next month. I’m super tired right now and have another long day ahead of me at the office. I was a little less than thrilled with my day today, so hopefully tomorrow will be better. I did get to eat on a rooftop downtown today which was really nice!

Until tomorrow~
